18th Symposium on Anemometry was held in June 10-11, 2003 at Uvaly near Prague. On this meeting more than 40 scientists participated from Czech, Slovak and Germany. The program of the Conference was focused mainly on experimental methods in fluid mechanics like LDA, PDA, PIV, CTA.

Fluidisation, suspension mixing, crystallisation and other industrial process are those for which a relative motion between susnpended solid particles and fluid is very important parameter. Settling hindered by turbulent eddies was not yet theoretically described.

LDA measurements of two-velocity components in a pipe

The paper deals with the LDA measurements of velocity field in a circular pipe when both pipe and flowing medium have different optical properties. The study is focused on the problem of different optical paths of laser beams when two-velocity components are measured. The possibility how to improve the problem is discussed.
